Infants & Toddlers

It is said that the script of the book of life is written by the end of the first three years of life.  Recent brain research confirms that investing in quality environments for infants and toddlers is our best hope for a more productive and peaceful world.

What kind of an environment characterizes these beginnings?  What stresses are placed on parents during these critical years?

Success By 6 Coalition of Douglas County asks what do parents need to successfully parent their infants and toddlers.

The Douglas County Child Development Association (DCCDA) provides referrals to parents seeking out of home early learning for their infants and toddlers. DCCDA also provides resources to centers and homes that provide early learning environments and experiences.

As Part of its
Smart Start programming, Success By 6 and DCCDA have teamed up to increase the availability and quality of out of home learning environments for infants and toddlers.  Our Infant Toddler Initiative includes the following programs:

  • Smart Start Health and Safety Grants to centers and homes to help defer the cost of equipment needed to increase quality and availability of infant and toddler learning services.
  • Smart Start Professional Development Scholarships to help teachers with the cost of professional development activities such as workshops, training sessions or acquiring a Child Development Associate degree (CDA).
  • Smart Start Financial Assistance for centers and homes that wish to become nationally accredited.
  • Smart Start Subsidies to homes and centers that open new learning slots for infants and toddlers.
