VOLUNTEER
ADVOCATES ARE VITALLY IMPORTANT TO WTCS
For many years since its inception, a team of dedicated and
diligent volunteers staffed WTCS.
Today,
volunteers are still the backbone of the agency. Volunteer
advocates are essential in order for WTCS to meet its core
services providing shelter, peer counseling and advocacy to
survivors of domestic abuse.
VOLUNTEER
ADVOCATES PLAY KEY ROLES AT WTCS
WTCS volunteer advocates are key to ensuring that WTCS provides
our core services. This is not your typical volunteer job
where you file papers or answer the business line. WTCS volunteers
are in the front line of services, working right alongside
staff.
WTCS
volunteer advocates provide peer-counseling to women and children
survivors of domestic violence, provide court advocacy, do
activities with children in the shelter, do community education,
and answer the crisis line!
Both
the community support groups and the shelter support groups
for women and children survivors are facilitated by volunteer
advocates.
Volunteers
have also been the inspiration for many projects at WTCS,
including: shelter recycling, community outreach efforts,
and this website!
Volunteer
have made WTCS an truly empowering agency; for women and children
using our services, and for the advocates working alongside
them.
Volunteer
Training Schedule
Thank
you for your interest in volunteering at WTCS!
Volunteer
training is held two to three times every year. This is a
thorough training consisting of domestic violence education
as well as providing fundamental preparation for the hands-on
work done by WTCS volunteer advocates.
As
a WTCS advocate you will be able to provide a variety
of services to survivors of domestic violence. You

counseling, facilitate support groups, do activities with
kids, provide court advocacy, and a million other services.
